As chief content officer of the National Geographic Society, Chris Johns oversees the expression of National Geographic’s editorial content across its media platforms. Johns served as editor in chief of National Geographic magazine from January 2005 to April 2014, the ninth editor of the magazine since its founding in 1888. His editorial efforts to focus on excellence in photojournalism and reporting were recognized with 21 National Magazine Awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors. Before becoming editor in chief in 2005 he was a field photographer for more than 20 years.
